Social Studies Curriculum:

  • Students take part in an in-depth study of Texas delivered through a series of weekly newspapers 

  • Variety of topics, digital support, and activities for quality student engagement virtually and face to face 

  • Apply language arts skills when using reference materials, taking notes, conducting oral presentations, and writing reflections.

  • Improve literacy work through non-fiction reading skills

  • Provide practice in scaffolding, thinking aloud, metacognition, and learning to work cooperatively  

  • Read maps and understand the geographic features of the world

  • Reflect on personal best with an emphasis on respect, responsibility, independence, compassion, empathy, and acceptance 

 

GRADES:

Content Mastery 30% (formal assessments, in-class projects)

Concept Development 50% (in-class independent work, collaborative skills, evidence of effort & learning)

Concept Literacy 20% (journal reflections, written explanation of learning)
